In December 2022, Charlie Koolhaas presented City Lust and Foto-Couture at Museum Villa Stuck in Munich, as part of the museum’s Chez Franz programme.
The event brought together several strands of Koolhaas’s practice: photography, writing, fashion and an ongoing investigation into cities and globalisation. The presentation included her book City Lust, a conversation with Rem Koolhaas, and a live presentation of Foto-Couture garments featuring images drawn from her photographic work.
The event was featured on Munich television in a Culture Club report from Villa Stuck, shown above.
It also received press coverage in Süddeutsche Zeitung, which reported on the discussion around globalisation, cultural difference, migration and changing Western attitudes towards other parts of the world.
The Villa Stuck presentation marked an important stage in the development of Koolhaas’s Foto-Couture practice, in which photography moves beyond the gallery wall and into clothing, bodies and public space.
